‘With Love (Season 2) 2023’: TV Review :

This Latinx series is entertaining to me. Throughout the year, each episode takes place on a holiday. Jorge Jr. and Lily, the gay son and sister, are the first people we meet in the Latin Diaz family. They find love while being surrounded by stories about their relatives that are interwoven throughout. Despite being predictable, it is entertaining to watch this holiday season. Five episodes fly by. It is well-acted, and I’m glad that gay and trans actors are playing gay and trans characters.

In terms of sexuality—the gay character’s portrayal, gender—women’s primary concern is getting a man, and even its portrayal of Latinx culture—the dialogue feels stereotypical. So, the story is pretty standard, with the exception of Latinx characters using Spanish words here and there in a way that will be easy for a general audience to understand (I’m Latina myself). Not at the level of rawness and authenticity I was expecting from One Day at a Time.

As one more commentator said, in the event that this had been offered to me as a Trademark type film with Latinx characters I figure I would be significantly more satisfied as my assumptions would have been exceptional changed.

It helps me a great deal to remember Mindy Kaling’s Four Weddings… as in it’s an outwardly dazzling network program with an expectedly alluring characters, a very ordinary plot structure and a bizarre timing that feels slow and doesn’t lean toward the jokes. Although both shows make an effort to be contemporary, the characters they portray lack any real-world authenticity.

Again, feel free to watch, but be prepared for a hallmark or ABC Family-type show with beautiful people all looking for love (it does have some drama). In that way, I might even keep watching.
